Top Draw

I is not hard to see why the whole world wants to stay in a penthouse. There is something extremely sexy about being above the crowds, quite literally, settled into an exclusive eagle’s nest and pampered to the point of pomposity by a private butler. It is all about privacy of course – even if you decide to throw a party and invite your friends. For a private party. Above the crowds. In your own personal penthouse. You get the picture. Heavenly Residence O-Wow Villas
December 14, 2008
When you exit from the elevator and enter Villa 9, facing across the swimming pool to the Indian Ocean before you, an “O-Wow” inadvertently escapes from the lips. The view is literally breathtaking. Yes, you read right, there is an elevator taking guests to this villa from the car park and reception below. It is probably the only villa in Bali with an elevator at all and without realizing it, when you arrive to Villa 9, you are three stories up overlooking a sheer cliff face that drops some 50 meters to the beach. This villa, besides appearing to be on top of the world, is also at the top of the other eight villas that make up The Asmara in Nusa Dua. Read the rest of this entry »

Built to Rent, Built to Dream
November 3, 2008
Villa Canggu is a stunning 4-bedroom villa in the Nelayan area of Canggu just a stone’s throw away from Tugu Hotel and 50 meters from the beach. Designed by Z&W Architects from Jakarta, the design is probably one of the most practical I’ve seen in recent times and perfect for a viable rental villa. With multiple access points to staff kitchen and service area below the main building, the villa must be one of the easiest run rental villas in Bali. Read the rest of this entry »

Typically Tropical In Canggu
October 29, 2008
Despite Bali’s burgeoning status as the riviera of the Pacific (is that a haughty snicker I hear from Phuket?) the actual number of sprawling, palatial properties truly deserving of the ‘villa’ moniker and available for rent is not all that high.
These are the kinds of residences that can work as privileged retreats for large groups and as venues for large-scale functions like weddings. A brand new villa in Canggu now adds itself to this rare set, marrying aesthetic flair with utilitarian savvy and refreshing reverence for its surroundings. Read the rest of this entry »
Villa Investment In Candi Dasa and East Bali
October 25, 2008
Until recently, perceived to be “too far away”, Bali’s east coast is experiencing a surge of interest, from developers searching for new frontiers, and Baliphilers looking to escape the ever growing crowds.
Leaving Sanur and heading east through Gianyar by car or bike had previously been a tortuous experience, dodging heavily laden trucks in search of the ferry port at Padang Bai. Not only dangerous, this was time consuming exercise, although those that made it to Candi Dasa and beyond confirmed it was well worth the effort. Read the rest of this entry »
Villa Investment In Nusa Dua
October 25, 2008
Cynically described as Disney’s version of Bali, sanitized and bland. Fantastic white sand beaches, protected by a reef enclosing gimlet clear lagoons, it must have been a no-brainer for Indonesia’s politicos when deciding where to create a tourist enclave on Bali. Read the rest of this entry »
Villa Investment In Sanur
October 25, 2008
Charmingly referred to as “snore”, Sanur retains the charm of a typical Balinese village whilst at the same time attracting international hotels and developers.
One of the original tourist development areas of Bali, the Grand Bali Beach Hotel was the land mark structure from the early sixties. Aesthetically graceless, a concrete block looming over the palm fringed beach, the Balinese soon realized the need for building regulations and impose the “not above palm tree” height building restrictions.
